Who we are:

CultureWorks is an emerging, national nonprofit “management commons” model — a platform for building and sharing essential financial and administrative support to sustain and strengthen the arts and culture sector. The Houston office is assisted by its national supporting organization, CultureWorks Commons Management, which facilitates our mission “to provide arts, cultural, and creative practitioners equitable access to the resources they need to flourish.”

What the work is:

  • Provide direction, oversight and supervision of all aspects of CultureWorks’ fiscal sponsorship services, including finance, HR, legal, and general administrative services, and monitor and maintain the financial health of our member projects.

  • Provide direction, oversight, and supervision of the general operations of CultureWorks, including preparing and completing the annual budget, producing monthly YTD financial reports, and building budgets for grant proposals.

  • Build and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with the Treasurer/Chair of the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors and engage the finance committee in developing financial plans and projections.

  • Manage annual regulatory and tax compliance processes, including serving as the primary internal contact during the preparation, actual and post stages of the annual audit for CultureWorks and its linked trust.

  • Hire and supervise the Finance & Operations staff, including a Finance Director and a Finance Associate

  • Maintain best practices and policies in nonprofit financial and risk management, including all insurances policies, and risk assessment and management training for both staff and members

Who we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of charitable law and accounting relating to the field of fiscal sponsorship

  • Familiarity with the arts, cultural and humanities fields, their business models and modes of operation
